Rix and Kay

Sussex Drink Producer of the Year

The Sussex Food and Drink Awards 2017 celebrate and support all the local food and drink producers throughout the county and it is with great delight that we are able to be a part of the awards and sponsor the “Sussex Drink Producer of the Year” award.

Based in the heart of the South East, Rix & Kay have a long history and recognised sector expertise advising farmers and growers throughout Sussex. Our expertise extends to advising manufacturers and processors, marketing co-operatives, distributors, food service companies, pubs, restaurants and retailers on a variety of legal issues. We appreciate the importance of our local farmers and producers throughout Sussex and believe the awards are a great way of promoting and recognising this ever growing industry.

southern-1

Sussex Food Producer of the Year

The Southern Co-operative champions local produce and we have been proud supporters of the Sussex Food & Drink Awards for several years. As an independent regional retailer it is vital that we support our local economy in the areas we trade; we do this through our Local Flavours range, offering the best of Sussex produce to our customers. In 2015 we saw Sussex excel; across our estate we sold more products made in Sussex than from any other county and we sold more local product in our Sussex stores than any other county – a fantastic result for the region’s suppliers.

“Supporting the awards allows us to further develop relationships, meeting existing suppliers and discovering new ones. We meet some brilliant producers and are always amazed by the products, passion and welcome we encounter along the way. The Sussex Food & Drink Awards are a celebration of Sussex produce at its absolute best.

Harveys New 2016

Sussex Farmers Market of the Year

I have long been passionate about the wonderful produce in our county and it makes such perfect sense to encourage people to buy what is grown on their doorstep. Farmers markets are a great showcase for local produce and often provide the first step for farmers and producers to sell their wares directly to local customers.

For over two centuries the name of ‘Harvey’ has been associated with the supply of the finest wines and beers throughout Sussex. Harvey and Son (Lewes) Ltd remains a privately owned family business (now in its seventh generation). Our proud traditions for the craft of brewing and the quality of our drink supplies have been augmented by the highest values of customer service.

Moreover, today the brewery has become something of a Sussex icon representing stability and integrity. Harveys is also delighted to be acknowledged equally for its local identity, environmental credentials, sympathetic architectural developments and local charitable activities.

Prestige Venues and Events

Sussex Young Chef of the Year

We have been so impressed with the standard of cooking in the last few years, as well as the professionalism shown by all chefs. Last year all the menus produced were of outstanding quality and a difficult challenge for all the judges. I am delighted for the past winners, but I shall be watching the careers of all chefs with interest and have no doubt that they will all be hugely successful in the future. We are now looking forward to judging the 2017 awards.

Conference and event organisers can treat their delegates to mouth-watering menus at Brighton & Hove Albion FC’s Amex Stadium created by catering and hospitality partners Sodexo Prestige. Sodexo Prestige has won a host of accolades for catering at their two Premier league football clubs, Everton and Newcastle United as well as Ascot Racecourse. The Amex Stadium has a range of rooms with pitch and downland views, suitable for meetings, events, exhibitions and banquets of up to 500.

Wealden

Sussex Food Shop of the Year

Wealden District Council is committed to providing opportunities for all through supporting our local businesses and entrepreneurs, and promoting Wealden’s beautiful countryside as a sustainable resource for recreation, tourism and other rural enterprise. Every year we organise a Wealden Food & Wine Festival to celebrate the very best of Sussex food and wine produce. The 2016 Festival takes place 16th to 17th July in the grounds of Pevensey Castle.

Sussex has a wonderful array of local producers, Local Markets, farm shops, delicatessens and independent local shops. These awards are a fantastic way for us to celebrate this offering and those involved with the food and drink industry as we seek to encourage more local people to buy local produce.

Wealden District Council is delighted to be supporting the Sussex Food & Drink Awards 2017.

SuperFast Thermapen

Sussex Eating Experience of the Year

Based in Worthing, we are the proud designers and British manufactures of the SuperFast Thermapen digital thermometer!

Thermapen thermometers are used worldwide in restaurants, hotels and kitchens – anywhere that perfectly cooked food is served, so it follows that food and the food industry play a huge part in our world; its producers and associated businesses are at the heart of our business.

It therefore gives us great pleasure to support the Sussex Food and Drink Awards, not just because it is the rich and varied county in which we are based, but also because we are enormously proud of the food and drink that Sussex is producing.

At Plumpton College we run a wide range of full and part time courses targeted at supporting employers, including the recently established ‘Butchery Trailblazer’ apprenticeship, working with butchers and meat processors from across the South East.
