Why take part?

This is what some of our former winners have said:

"Winning Sussex Butcher of the Year gave us very good publicity locally through self advertisement, new customers came into the shop because they heard we were winners, it was great recognition for the co-operative workers, Barry Western, our butcher and all the shop staff, recognition that you’re doing the right thing and what the co-operative movement represents, how it links people to food.” - Raphael Rivera, Tablehurst Farm, Forest Row

"When our name was announced we were overwhelmed, particularly as we were up against some really worthy opponents. It gave our business more credibility, knowing that we’re seen not just as a little producer, but the public voting for you as the best ice cream in Sussex. We’re supplying more than ever before, it’s raised our profile through media coverage, we now have more customers and more flavours taken by existing customers who are willing to take new flavours because of the Sussex Food Producer of the Year award and the association of working with a winner" - Caroline Spiby, Caroline's Dairy, Sidlesham

“Winning the 2010/11 Sussex Food & Drink Award for Best Eating Experience was the perfect start to 2011, while the awards evening is something I’ll never forget.Sussex is uniquely fortunate to have such passionate, committed suppliers who repeatedly present incredible produce for some of the very best local restaurants anywhere in the UK. For that reason, winning Sussex Food & Drink Award’s Best Eating Experience is something for which The Curlew is incredibly proud.” - Mark Colley, The Curlew, Bodiam

"Winning the award was very humbling for us given the great brewers we have as neighbours in the County. Since winning Sussex Drink Producer of the Year, lots of customers have mentioned it and some new ones have been in touch - we're all very proud." - James Cuthbertson, Dark Star Brewery, Partridge Green

"Winning Sussex Food/Farm Shop of the Year two years running is a tremendous honour for both myself and my staff who have loyally worked alongside me developing Cheese Please into what it is today, and in fact is still developing into exciting new fields.

"Initially the response from customers was one of delight and support, but as for new business that took a while to develop. We are now seeing the rewards of the advertising and events that were developed as a result of winning the first time. Trade has improved in what is a tough retail environment, but positive results prevail." - Fiona Kay, Cheese Please, Lewes
